The visitors secured a narrow win in a high scoring game, albeit one which strangely saw just two tries scored. It did not seem to matter though as the visitors went home with a 28-31 victory.

It was the respective boots of Keys’ Dean Gunter and Bedwas’ Richard Powell which did the damage as indiscipline played a part on both sides.

Gunter kicked seven penalties and Powell eight as both sides struggled to come to terms with the referee’s interpretation of the laws.

Bedwas were on the scoreboard first and raced into a healthy early lead thanks to the boot of Powell and a try by full-back Stuart Thomas. Keys did manage a reply on the stroke of half time when down to 13 men with Ollie Hodge crashing over from close range. Keys full back Gareth David converted as his side went in 10-25 down.

The second half saw more of the same as Keys, thanks to six second half penalties by Gunter, clawed their way back into the game.

At 28-28 the game was there for the taking for either side though it was the visitors who went home happiest, Powell kicking a penalty in the dying minutes to give Bedwas the points.
