Right winger Josh Adams crossed for a brace and further scores from centre Jamie Evans, replacement James Stephenson and Jevon Barnes secured what was in the end a comfortable victory.
After a poor first half performance, Gwent found themselves 20-3 down at the interval and although they rallied impressively, Sir Gar always looked like running out winners.
In a competitive and physical opening 20 minutes, both sets of forwards sought the upper hand on a soggy Pandy Park pitch. It was Sir Gar who dominated possession and territory though and they were rewarded with points from the boot of fly-half Daniel Jones.
Two penalties, one a difficult long range effort, gave the visitors a 6-0 lead which they soon extended. It was Adams who got the first try of the day, crossing for Sir Gar following a move which began inside their own half.
Lock Sion Lewis stole possession and tore upfield and, following great support play from Gareth Rees, Adams touched down in the corner. Jones added the conversion for a 13-0 lead.
With nearly half an hour played, Gwent were struggling to impose themselves on the game and when they did have a chance to get the scoreboard moving, fly-half Scott Turner put a difficult penalty attempt wide. He made amends though shortly after to narrow his side’s deficit to 10 points but could only watch as Sir Gar extended their lead before half-time.
Craig Woodhall, who enjoyed a hugely powerful and influential game at centre, broke through the Gwent defence and offloaded to midfield partner Jamie Evans who had the simple task of scoring between the posts. Jones kicked the extra two points for a 20-3 half-time lead.
If the game looked up for Gwent, they were gifted a lifeline seconds into the second period. From the restart, Gwent centre Tyler Morgan intercepted a pass to score under the posts. Turner easily converted and added a penalty soon after as his side began the fight back.
The home side seemed revived and were dominating proceedings, Turner adding another penalty after Sir Gar hooker Torin Myhill was shown a yellow card.
With Sir Gar only four points ahead at this stage, the game was back on but this only served to stir the visitors into action and from then on, Gwent did not score another point.
From inside their own half, Sir Gar soon added their third try. Woodhall showed he has precision as well as power in his game with a delicate kick through the Gwent defence, one he collected before feeding Adams who ran in to score his second of the afternoon.
Jones failed to add the conversion but his side were now dominating. Gwent flanker Seamus Casey was yellow carded and Sir Gar made the most of the man advantage, running in two late tries.
Another clean break from Woodhall saw the centre put substitute Stephenson over for a try before Barnes scored his side’s fifth try of the afternoon late on.
Jones converted Stephenson’s score to finish with 12 points overall as his side ran out worthy winners.
