A number of Principality Premiership coaches including Bridgend duo Ben Rose and Paul Young, Carmarthen Quins head coach Steve Williams and Llanelli’s Ioan Cunningham are enrolled on the current course which has four main modules.
These include the coaching process, leadership, working with elite performers and sports psychology.
After completing the two year course, the coaches will have completed the top level of coaching qualification available.
“It’s obviously very time consuming but very, very important for our development as coaches,” said Bridgend forwards coach Young. “There’s a really high standard of coaches on the course which is great and a lot of players finishing and trying to get their badges.”
Alongside the Premiership coaches on the current course, Ebbw Vale boss Jason Strange is joined by Swansea University head of rugby Richard Lancaster and Wales U20 backs coach Byron Hayward.
All of the coaches will complete 10 sessions before Christmas with the aim to progress further up the coaching ladder once the course is complete.
“I’m enjoying my role as forwards coach at Bridgend at the moment and the level four coaching badge could see me progress further to possibly being a head coach,” added Young.
“The course focuses on specific areas and gives us time to develop and see where we’re going. It’s obviously vital in our development and hopefully after gaining level four we’ll assess where we are with regards to the future.”
