Howells was taken off early in the second-half of the Welsh All Blacks’ 49-38 loss and broke the news from his hospital bed on Sunday night.
“Thanks to everyone that’s wished me all the best. It really means a lot, Still waiting for MRI results though! Thanks again guys,” Howells said on Twitter.
Neath have confirmed the injury suffered by the former Maesteg, Llanelli and Carmarthen Quins man and hope he will make a full recovery.
“He’s had the scan and he’s waiting on the MRI results,” said Neath assistant coach Leigh Davies.
“We all wish him the best and everyone is feeling for him. He was doing really well too.”
The injury compounded Neath’s woes after a difficult start to the season and they also lost scrum-half Chris Morgans, who had grabbed a first-half hat-trick to put his side on track.
But Davies reckons there were plenty of positions from the clash.
“The first half was the best we’ve played in a long time,” added the former Wales centre.
“But then we didn’t really recover from the disruption.
“Chris Morgans had a great impact on the game but we have to manage him at the moment because of his injury.
“We lost our momentum and they had a great kicker in their team and they pinned us back and clawed their way back in the game.
“Overall it was a great effort from the boys but we need to get fitter mentally. Our concentration levels for the first 40 minutes were the best this season.
“We need to extend those to the full 80 to completely improve. Bedwas away is one of the hardest games in the league and for us to put a performance like we did in the first half, it was pleasing to see.”
