The Wizards, who now move ahead of Swansea off the bottom spot, were ahead at the break thanks to a try from Jonathon Philips and the boot of Jamie Davies, who kicked six penalties over the eighty minutes. However, Llandovery fought back with help from fly half Rhys Jones, who also had six penalties to his name, but the division leaders couldn’t bag a late winner in the tense closing minutes.
Elsewhere, there was last minute joy for second placed Bedwas as Richard Powell put over a penalty right at the death to seal a 31-28 victory over Cross Keys. Bedwas had led comfortably after forty minutes but conceded a string of second half penalties to let Cross Keys’ fly half Dean Gunter claw the homeside back into the game. The result comes as a relief to Bedwas following their inconsistent away form so far this season.
In an entertaining game at The Arms Park, Llanelli put on a fine performance to come away with a bonus point 38-17 win over Cardiff. Following an early drop-goal from the home side’s Gareth Davies, Justin Davies and Steffan Hughes crossed over to create a lead for Llanelli after just twelve minutes. Despite Cardiff pressure mounting throughout the second half, three conversions and four penalties from Owen Williams secured all four points for Llanelli.
There was a hat trick of tries for Jason Harris of Carmarthen Quins as they trounced Swansea 41-17 at St Helens while No.10 Jamie Murphy scored all thirteen points for Bridgend in their narrow win at Neath. The outside half scored and converted a first half try and kicked two penalties, and the game finished 13-8.
