Community coaches are vital personnel in aiding development staff deliver their work programs. They are at the coal face in terms of rugby delivery and this form of training is an important element to give them the support they need.
The event was led by Joe Davies, Player Development Officer for Cardiff, Sophie Wilkinson, Participation Officer for the Vale of Glamorgan and South of Cardiff and Jon Evans, the Coach Development Officer for the Blues region.
“The day was a great success and I’d like to thank all the coaches who came from around the region,” said Davies.
The day focused on the delivery of touch and atomic touch, alternative forms of the game which will be delivered after Christmas.
“The experience of Sophie who plays touch rugby at an international level and is a qualified touch rugby deliverer, enables the coaches to have a real cutting edge experience,” added Davies.
Sophie Wilkinson said that: “The day was a huge success and I was really pleased to see how quickly the guys picked up the rules. They all engaged in the training with enthusiasm and they seemed to take lots from the day.”
The community department will look to run another course in the New Year to keep up skilling their community coaches and keep up the high standards expected by the department.
