They both declared that the experience of RWC 2011 in New Zealand taught them that hard pool games prepared players well for the knock out stages of the competition.
The pair also pointed out that the current young Wales squad will contain players who will have accumulated many caps and lots of experience by the time the World Cup arrives in the UK.
Wales have been drawn in Pool A against the winner of the play-off, Oceana 1, England and Australia.
Gatland said: “We’re going to go in hoping the young side we have now comes out of the group in 2015 looking good.
“I think the group we are in is great. It will be tough going but rewarding if we come out of the group into the knock out phase.
“We’ve played Australia and of course England quite a few times so we all know each other pretty well. There’s a lot of rugby to be played between now and the World Cup.
“The great thing about the competition is the amount of time you have with a squad to prepare properly so that is what we are looking forward to.”
Warburton, added: “The positive of coming out of a tough group is obviously how you will be battle hardened by the time you get to the quarter finals.
“It is a highly competitive group and as a player that is something you really look forward to and something that motivates you.
“We have a young squad so some of our boys will be 26 or 27 with a lot of caps under their belts by the time the World Cup comes around.”
