More than 50 coaches and 43 players attended coach development evenings for Under 9, 10 and 11 coaches within North Wales. Three sessions were held at Mold, Caernarfon and COBRA rugby clubs respectively as part of the WRU’s aim of catering for the whole north Wales region.
The focus of the sessions was the key coaching areas for the respecitve age groups, the tackle and contact areas and basic handling and developing these through specifically modified games.
The sessions also looked at ideas for developing key social, personal and creative skills for young players aligned to handling activities and fun games.
The first session at Mold was held in late October with more than 20 coaches and players taking part. Tim Hoare, WRU Coach Development Officer for north Wales and Allan James, Participation Officer for north Wales delivered the session which was very well received by all involved.
The second and third sessions were held at Caerarfon (November 19) and COBRA, (December 10) and were equally successful with WRU Player Development Officers Dai Higgs and Chris Williams also playing an active role in the delivery of them.
