The decision was taken after a review over the last six weeks and after discussions with senior players and coaches.
The Steelmen have been without a forwards coach following head coach Neil Edwards announcement that he was leaving the club in October to join Premiership side Neath.
Edwards’ departure was a blow to the Championship side but they have maintained their early season form and sit in second place ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Glamorgan Wanderers, three points behind leaders Bargoed but with a game in hand.
With no new forwards coach for the foreseeable future, Head Coach Jason Strange will oversee the forwards alongside the teams attack and defence.
Llyr Lane will coach the backs whilst maintaining his skills and conditioning role while in a further change, highly regarded physiotherapist Rhys Shorney will become more actively involved in the strength and conditioning department.
With the Steelmen enjoying a brilliant first half of the season, Strange hopes the change will help drive the club on to even better things in the New Year.
“It’s something we talk about all the time, how do we keep growing ourselves and the group, and on balance we thought this was probably the best time to do it,” he said.
“It’s good for myself to have a new challenge. I’m excited about it and I’ll be using a lot of the knowledge of the forward pack to help.
“We discussed it at some length and the reason behind it and the players are excited and looking forward to continuing their excellent form.”
