His side host Dundee HSFP at Carmarthen Park tomorrow (Saturday, 2.30pm) with a win first and foremost on Williams’ mind.

“The competition was very much a step into the unknown at the start of the season, but our first game, away to Cornish Pirates opened our eyes to what it has to offer,” he said.

“It was new in every way – the travelling, the standard of the English Championship and although the boys were slightly overawed in the opening minutes, they certainly grew during the game and took a lot from the whole experience.

“Gaining a bonus point despite losing that game could  prove decisive to us as we go forward. It was good to get a home win over local rivals Swansea but now we play Dundee home and away needing two wins if we want any chance of progressing.

“We watched Dundee’s game against Swansea which they lost so we have to be confident but the score line flattered Swansea somewhat.

“We’ve certainly got a taste for this competition now – it’s great for a small club like Carmarthen to be involved in something like this so we want to do as well as we can.”
