Despite snow and ice disrupting games across Wales, several fixtures in the SWALEC Cup went ahead. It was close in the capital as Cardiff clashed with Cardiff Met at the Arms Park, but it was the Premiership team who ensured a place in the next round with a 20-16 victory.

Back row Reuben Tucker went over to give the home side the lead and fly half James Thomas added to the points with a second half try. Both were converted by Joe Griffin who kicked two penalties to guarantee the win.

There was another local derby at Brewery Field, where Bridgend overcame Bridgend Athletic 31-3. The Ravens’ tries came from back row No.8 Tom Morgan, Andrew Waite and replacement No.8 Scott Hicks, while ex Athletic winger Rhys Ward Jones bagged a brace against his former side.

Swansea bounced back from recent league woe to brush past visiting RGC1404 29-12. With first half tries from fullback Nick J Thomas, wing Nathan Brookes and centre Aled Jenkins, The Whites led 22-0 at the break, and with three conversions from Thomas and a further five points from centre Nick Harwood, cruised into the next round.

Carmarthen Quins came away with goods at Narbeth, as the Premiership side scored five tries to win 36-15. Aaron Banfield gave the away side the lead and with a second try under his belt, and two more from Rhodri Wells, the game looked dead and buried at halftime.

Despite a brave fight back after the interval, with a try from Stewart Morris and a penalty try, Narbeth failed to claw back the points and a try from centre Alex Bickersgill sealed the deal for the Quins.

Parc y Scarlets saw two Premiership sides lock horns. A late try from Kyle Evans wasn’t enough for Llanelli as Pontypridd’s centre Gary Williams went over twice to deny the home team a place in the second round. The final score was 22-14 to Ponty.
