After a lengthy break from rugby, the Miner Birds were a little bit rusty going into the game and are currently flooded with injuries but they came away with a very impressive win and given that the Swansea side were a league above the Miner Birds, Penallta were always going to be up against a good and physical opposition.
Â
The first try was scored by Miner Birds No 8 Abbie Taylor but it was all Gorseinon then for the rest of the first half and the side were rewarded with two tries from Carole-Ann Burt making it 10-5 to Gorseinon at the break.
Â
In the second half the tables were turned as it was all Penallta who ran in a further three tries through centre and Dragons regional player Chelsea Cashman, before Taylor added her second for the afternoon. Replacement Jo Powell, who only started playing rugby in September, grabbed herself a try at the end of the game. Abbie Taylor added two conversions.
Â
The Birds now have a tough home encounter with Tylorstown Ladies. The two sides met previously in the league and Penallta are hoping to keep up the impressing streak going.
Â
Penallta Miner Birds are always on the lookout for new and experienced players to join the newly formed side at Ystrad Mynch. Any girls interested, contact Team Manager Anne Williams on 07875 103996. Training is on Wednesday nights.
