Full steam ahead for Women’s season

After a successful period before Christmas, the women’s season continues apace with plenty of rugby to be played at both regional and college level.

At college level, the seven a side game is taking priority with a number of teams focused on the upcoming Rosslyn Park Sevens and Urdd Festival.

A recent sevens tournament, held at Llandarcy at the end of January, was a huge success with eight teams taking part at the home of the Ospreys.

With the teams split into two pools of four, there was some entertaining rugby played with plenty of tries but it was Newport High and Coleg Sir Gar who topped the respective pools.

In a tight final between the two teams, it was Sir Gar who prevailed, outscoring their opponents by four tries to two.

Looking ahead, the sevens teams will now be focused on the upcoming tournaments at Rosslyn Park (March 18-21) and the Urdd Festival (March 14).

In the 15 a side game, the women’s regional season continues with double headers taking place across all four regions and in north Wales.

Over the next few months, fixtures will take place across Wales, details of which can be seen below.

Prior to the regional games kicking off, there will be U15s skills and talent identification sessions taking at the host region.

The sessions are open to all girls who play club rugby in the region from U9s to U15s while newcomers to the game are welcome.
