Despite trailing early on, flanker Chris Williams ran in four tries in a 42-19 win.Â
The home side were behind at the break, Williams and Tom Dew exchanging scores. And although Jon Fox extended Gower’s lead early in the second half, Llandovery ran riot over their 14-man opposition.
Harrsion Walsh’s first half dismissal proved key and three further scores from Williams and a try apiece for Sion Hughes and Dafydd Hughes sealed the win.
Despite their impressive form so far this season, Llandovery were behind from the kick off as Gower College made a fast start.
After an early Liam Popham penalty had given them the lead, things soon got even better when wing Dew went over for a try in the corner. The score was a deserved reward for an excellent start, the try coming after sustained pressure on the Llandovery line.
The visitors turned down two kickable penalties, choosing instead to run the ball with the end result being a score for Dew. Popham missed the conversion but his team led 8-0.
Things soon turned though with the dismissal of prop Walsh for an off the ball incident. Owen Howe kicked Llandovery’s first points from the resulting penalty but despite being down to 14, two further penalties from Popham gave the visitors a surprising, not to mention encouraging, 14-3 lead.
After a poor start and with a man advantage, Llandovery slowly managed to get back into things and when Williams burst over for Howe to convert, they had cut their deficit to four points at the break.
If a 14-10 half time lead was a surprise for Gower, another score soon after the break was scarcely believable for the 14 men. A Llandovery line out on their own line went awry and Fox crashed over.
Sadly for them though, that was as good as it got as the home side came roaring back as the man advantage started to become apparent.
And with the bit between their teeth, Llandovery ran riot as their tactic of spreading the ball wide paid off.
Williams was the main beneficiary as he added a second half hat trick to his earlier score with Sion and Dafydd Hughes completing the scoring.
Howe kicked the rest as Llandovery registered what was in the end a comfortable victory. Â
