The game, which was originally scheduled to be played January 20Â but postponed due to the snow, was the Falcons first game since the beginning of January and with key players unavailable due to Welsh squad duties the team looked slightly different than it has done this season.
A Falcon kick off was collected by Pencoed but at the first ruck was turned over. Pontyclun dominating the opening period of the game, the first try came from Rhianydd ‘Raz’ Morgan who stepped into the scrum half role for the match, going over in the corner.
Pontyclun’s second try came from winger Jaimee-Lee Bennett, who sped past the Phoenix defence to score under the post. Falcon fly halve, Brogan Jones added the conversion.
Before half time, Pencoed enjoyed a sustained period of possession and attacked the Falcon defence, keeping the ball through several phases but a fumbled knock on meant the referee blew for half time with the score at 12 – 0.
In the second half, Levi Hallett scored her first try of the season when the falcons exploited an over lap, with Brogan Jones once again adding the conversion.
Winger Sophie Francis also scored in the corner but the try was unconverted.
In the closing moments of the match saw Pencoed attack the Falcon try line and came away with a consolation score from Abbey Read, but the conversion hit the uprights.
The two sides next meet again this weekend in the reverse fixture at Pontyclun (KOÂ 2:30 ko).
