Justin Tipuric admits he can’t wait to link up with Sam Warburton against England tomorrow.

With recent captain Ryan Jones out injured, the two flankers start together for Wales for the first time in Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations title decider.

The make-up of the Welsh back row has been a constant source of debate and with that area of the game so vital, Tipuric’s partnership with Warburton could prove key.

Last weekend’s win over Scotland at Murrayfield saw Warburton return to his best with a man of the match performance, linking up with Tipuric for most of the second half.

And the Ospreys man says he is looking forward to reuniting the partnership from the start.

“I’ve played with Sam before so I don’t think it will be a problem,” said the Trebanos product.

“I’m looking forward to working as a back row, we get on well with Toby (Faletau) and hopefully if we all work as a three, rather than as individuals, we’ll do well.

“If one of us is tackling, one of us will be going for the jackal or take the space and if one makes a break, we’ll have someone on our shoulder.”

With both players seen predominantly as sevens, what Wales may lose in sheer physicality, they will more than make up for in athleticism.

Warburton’s work on the ball last weekend saw him earn Wales a number of penalties and Tipuric says the two can gel together to Wales’ advantage.

“He’s had a lot of stick but I thought it was great for Sam to get back to his best and turn the ball over,” he added.

“That’s a strength of his and it was good to see. I’m not the biggest so I have to tackle low and the big advantage of that is that you can get people on the ball.

“That’s what you want as a back row – to get people down to the ground early. Hopefully that will be a big part of our game this weekend and we’ll get Sam or Toby on the ball.”

Tipuric will go head to head with England captain Chris Robshaw at the Millennium Stadium with the two Toms – Croft and Wood – teaming up with the Harlequins man.

And with an eight point win enough for Wales to retain their title, it promises to be a tense, see-saw battle.

“I’m looking forward to it. England are going for the Grand Slam so they’ll be the favourites but hopefully we can upset them,” said Tipuric

“It’s a big game but it’s more excitement than anything. It being the last game of the Six Nations and having the chance to win it brings something extra.

“Stopping England getting the Grand Slam is a major motivation but it won’t be easy.”
