After playing three games away from home, Wales return to what will be a packed out Millennium Stadium to take on Grand Slam chasing England.
An eight point win would be enough to see Wales crowned champions and the their forwards coach reckons the team are relishing the chance to return home.
“It’s been quite a while since we played at home. Coming in on the bus today, we felt comfortable,” said McBryde after today’s captain’s run.
“We know what we are faced with. The police escort is on our side, the crowd coming in is on our side so it will be comfortable and like putting on an old shoe.”
After an opening day defeat to Ireland, Wales bounced back with three successive away wins to see them remain in contention for the title going into the final round of fixtures.
A red hot atmosphere will await England but McBryde knows that as far as Wales are concerned, that will be to their advantage.
“It’s about managing the atmosphere and pressure and a solid start will be key for both teams,” argued McBryde.
“The build-up has been more of a slow burner for us. After a poor opening half against Ireland, we have gained momentum.
“If we were to get it, it’s been a long time coming and something will erupt in Cardiff.
“England in the last match was always going to be a big one, there’s no need to fuel the fire anymore.”
England may be going for a Grand Slam after completing four successive victories but McBryde says Wales are just focusing on themselves. And he has sighted half time in the Ireland game as the moment Rob Howley’s men started to turn things around.
The former Wales hooker added: “They have a bench that can make a difference but so do we. We have been very happy with the guys coming on and having an impact.
“There was a realisation at half-time against Ireland that ‘come on boys we are not this bad’. When you are backed into a corner the only thing you can do is come out fighting. That gave us the confidence to push on. It galvanised the squad.
“We have gone from strength to strength and if we go on to record a victory tomorrow, it shows we have learnt those lessons and are back to our best.”
All of Wales will be hoping for that to be the case.
