Rhys Edwards’ side qualified for the tournament having finished in the top four of this season’s completed Six Nations tournament.

The dates and venues for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2014 will be announced by the International Rugby Board this Thursday.

The announcement will be made to coincide with this week’s qualifiers for WRWC which are currently taking place in Madrid, Spain.

Excitement is building ahead of next year’s tournament, which is seen as the pinnacle for female rugby players at elite level.

Eight teams have already qualified for the Women’s Rugby World Cup. Defending champions New Zealand, 2010 runners-up England, Australia, hosts France, USA, Canada, Ireland and Wales have all booked their places at next year’s event.

In Madrid this week six teams are battling it out to win one of two places at France 2014. Italy, Scotland, Sweden, Samoa, Netherlands and hosts Spain have already played one round of matches, with Round two taking place today and the final round of matches on Saturday.

“We’re really excited to finally announce the dates, venue locations and tournament designs for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in France next year,” said IRB Tournament Director Philippe Bourdarias.

“From this week’s action in Madrid, you can see how much players at this level want to qualify for the World Cup. The games have generated massive interest in their home countries, and the quality of rugby on display really has been impressive.”

“Once we reveal the dates and venues for the Women’s Rugby World Cup, fans can plan their travel to the tournament to support their team in France next year.”

Women’s Rugby is one of the fastest-growing team sports in the world and there are currently an estimated one million women and girls playing the game in 112 countries worldwide, with more than 200,000 registered and competing on a regular basis.
