Wales flanker and Lions captain, Sam Warburton helped select the winner as part of the judging panel after the club submitted an application to upgrade two changing rooms for their junior squads. The club hopes that by improving drainage in the shower and toilet area, and by tiling, painting and decorating the changing area, it will be in a better position to attract junior members to the club. The work is set to be carried out over NatWest RugbyForce Weekend on the 15th and 16th June.

Llandeilo was one of 70 Welsh rugby clubs who registered for the programme this year. Twenty-four Welsh clubs have won a smaller grant worth £250 to put towards a project to be undertaken over the NatWest RugbyForce Weekend, for improvements ranging from repairing water damage, to painting fencing around the pitches. Llandeilo RFC was picked out of the final 25 to be awarded with the top prize.

A Wales squad member, NatWest members of staff, club members and local volunteers will all join forces to help make the improvements at Llandeilo RFC on the designated weekend, and we encourage anyone interested in getting involved there, or at their own local rugby club, to do so. You will have a very warm welcome!

Sam Warburton, who was involved in NatWest RugbyForce judging for the second year running, said: “The NatWest RugbyForce programme acts as a kick-start to a more sustainable future for clubs. Local rugby is really important to me, and through NatWest RugbyForce I have been lucky enough to get back to my former club, Rhiwbina RFC. It’s important we don’t forget that our grassroots clubs provide the next generation of international players. The project presented by Llandeilo RFC seemed like a great way to attract more junior members to the club.”

Mark Douglas, Wales Regional Director for NatWest, said: “Huge congratulations to Llandelio RFC; selecting a winner wasn’t easy. However, it was the impact that the award would have for Llandeilo RFC to preserve their future as a club that really stood out. We would urge everyone to get in touch with their local club over the next two months to see how you can join in and help out with the NatWest RugbyForce Weekend over 15th and 16th June. The local rugby clubs need your support.”
