The Wales fly half endured a torrid 2013, missing most of the season after tearing his Achilles in a Heineken Cup clash with Exeter Chiefs before Christmas.
The injury ruled him out of Wales’ victorious Six Nations campaign and although he did return to feature for the Scarlets in the end of season play-offs, he suffered a reoccurrence of his injury in the warm up to the semi-final clash with Ulster.
Priestland had been due to start that game but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off.
Owen Williams was his late replacement that day but it failed to stop the Ravens progressing to the final.
While hugely disappointing at the time, the setback has given Priestland time to recover and he is now hoping the 2013/14 campaign comes round quickly.
“The injury is going OK,” said the Wales man.
“I’m resting it up at the moment, it feels strong, I can walk fine and it’s just a matter of getting it stronger now.
“We’re back in pre-season with the Scarlets on June 24 so I won’t be able to make that but I’m hoping to get up to speed as quickly as possible and get back into full training. I just need to get the body right.”
Priestland will be hoping to team up with international and regional colleague Jonathan Davies at Parc y Scarlets next season.
The 26-year-old has seen his good friend Davies enjoy a superb tour of Australia with the British & Irish Lions to date, playing the full 80 minutes in the narrow 23-21 first Test win last Saturday.
“I’ve spoken to Jon a couple of times and he’s really pleased with how everything is going,” said Priestland.
“He’s one of the best centres in the world. When we were younger, Jon was always talked about being a 50-cap Wales international and potential Lion. People were always talking about his potential and it is no surprise to me he has fulfilled that.
“Jonathan is also held in such a high regard by players and the management. Everybody respects him on the field because he is quite vocal and does demand the best out of his team-mates.”
