“It’s been another very successful year at the Cardiff Touch League, with numbers blooming once again,” said Gavin Williams, WRU Participation Officer for the Blues region.

“Round seven of the leagues, which are the last rounds, are taking place this week with the final of the Thursday League due to complete the tournament.”

More than 1,000 players have taken part in Touch leagues in the Blues region, which are run in a partnership between the WRU and the Wales Touch Association (WTA). The two main match venues have been in Cardiff and Pontyclun.

“It is exciting to see the WRU and WTA working together to provide a viable alternative game for everyone,” said Ben Rose, WRU Lead Officer for Alternative Games.

“It gives rugby a 12 month profile and increases the opportunities we offer for people to be involved as well as having a massive impact on the health and well-being on our nation.”

Matthew Enoch, Development Director for the Wales Touch Association, added: “We are delighted to be supporting the WRU in the delivery of the Touch leagues. These are extremely important to the WTA.

“The leagues are ideal for those wishing to participate in Touch as a recreational sport and provide an ideal way to keep fit over the summer months with the emphasis very much on having fun, trying something new and meeting new people.

“Pontyclun is right in the middle of Touch’s traditional heartland in Wales and has already provided some of the best and most influential players in Touch in Wales.”
