Neath coach Neil Edwards believes extra conditioning over the next two weeks will help his side improve on last Saturday’s performance against Rosslyn Park.

The Welsh All Blacks fell 25-48 to the English first division side and despite holding their own for the first half, their opponents pulled away after the break.

“We were defiantly expecting a tough game, they have got around 6 or 7 guys there who have played Aviva Premiership,” said Edwards.

“As a group of coaches we’re looking for improvement every week. The really pleasing thing is that the boys have really brought into it all and things have gone well.

“Yes we had some defensive issues which were addressed in the last week and a half but the line outs are looking good, the attacks have been looking pretty good and for longer periods than against the Ospreys, so on the whole we’re pretty pleased.

“The first 50 minutes we were really pleased and the plan was going well. We were forced into a few changes, so a couple of combinations we wanted to look at we didn’t get chance to after losing a few of the boys in position. I kind of had to pull a full back into wing, so we lost our shape a little. That’s how it goes in a preseason friendly.”

One player that stood out that evening was Dai Langdon with Edwards praising his role in the side.

“Dai has done really well, he is a great bloke and a great general,” he said.

“He has a great attitude and he sums our group up perfectly well. He’s got new faces around him, he’s happy to lead, he’s happy to get on with it and I’m really pleased with him.

“The boys’ attitudes are fantastic, everyone is getting on really well and working as hard as we want them too. We’ve got two weeks now before our hit out against Bridgend and we’ll be a lot better than that again.”

Neath’s next game is on Friday 23rd August, another friendly, home at The Gnoll against Carmarthen Ath (KO 7:30).
