Head coach Warren Gatland and skipper Sam Warburton led the group as players and back room staff flew in from across the home nations (and France) respectively to meet up for the first time since their stunning series win against Australia in the summer.
The Cardiff Blues flanker led the Lions to a 2-1 series triumph against the Wallabies in a series where a number of Welsh players enhanced their reputations.
Mr Cameron was presented with Ireland fly-half Jonny Sexton’s No 10 jersey and said his son Arthur had been inspired to play rugby because of the Lions’ exploits.
He said: “It’s a huge honour. My son, just because of you guys, has just started tag rugby. He will be so excited about this jersey.”
Mr Cameron congratulated captain Sam Warburton and coach Warren Gatland as they brought along the Tom Richards Cup to Number 10.
The PM said: “Come tell me all about it, what it felt like to lift the cup.”
Warburton joked: “Heavy. I shared it so it made it a bit easier.”
As the players arrived at the famous door of Number 10 many posed for photos including England’s Tom Croft, who is using crutches following a knee ligament injury suffered while playing for Leicester.
Gatland approached Number 10 with Warburton, although the pair initially struggled to gain entry as they pushed and pulled at the door before using the door knocker. Gatland joked: “We can’t get in.”
