Bridgend Ravens started their Premiership campaign with a crushing 20-45 defeat at the hands of Carmarthen Quins on Saturday at the Bridgend Ford Brewery Field.

It was a game which the Ravens started positively, with an excellent early try from hooker Ash James converted by James Dixon. But following that score, Quins stamped their authority on the match to blow Bridgend away.

Wales Under 20 international Sion Bennett scored the opener for the visitors, minutes after Craig Evans had kicked their first three points of the game. Evans was not as successful with the conversion, slicing his kick well wide though his side were now back in the game.

Soon after, Ospreys back Ross Jones gave Bridgend hope with a long distance penalty to level the scores but this was as good as it got for Bridgend, even after Dixon kicked them into the lead moments later.

The tide changed when two players were sent to the bin. Ash James of Bridgend and Gareth Thomas of Carmarthen both received a 10 minute rest after an off the ball incident. It was the Quins who responded better though and a try from Haydn Pugh put them into a 13-15 interval lead.

The second half was a different story, as Carmarthen attacked the Ravens for a full 40 minutes to storm a bonus point victory.

Pugh crossed again before tries from Dylan Morgans and a brace from Wales Sevens man Jason Harries took the game away from the home side. The kicking of Craig Evans and Aled Thomas put the final nail in the coffin, securing a sensational win for the Quins.

Bridgend did manage a late consolation from second row Owain Lloyd, which Dixon converted, but the game was already up.
