SWALEC Plate: Heol y Cyw v Cwmllynfell

SWALEC Plate draw

Rhiwbina defeated One East side Ynysybwl 37-22 in the opening round of the SWALEC Plate and the reward for the Squirrels of Two East is a home tie against another One East outfit, Bedlinog. They will be confident of making further progress with their visitors rooted to the bottom of their division.

SWALEC Bowl holders Wattstown of Three South East also overcame top opposition after narrowly defeating One East’s Gilfach Goch 16-15, but they face a difficult trip to Llantrisant in round two. The Black Army had a walkover in round one and as they are unbeaten in Two East they will provide stiff opposition on their Cefn Mably ground.

Cardiff Quins ran riot in round one at Two East side Llanishen, romping home 51-24. The Three South East side now face a tough visit to Nelson of One East who edged out Penallta 16-8 in the opening round.

Two West side Newcastle Emlyn make up the quartet of round one giant killers. They travelled to One West’s Carmarthen Athletic and won 25-23 to set up a home tie against Haverfordwest of Three West.

Whitland scraped through their first round match against Crymych on try count after the game ended 13-13. The One West side will not want to leave it that close when they entertain Tenby United but with Seasiders currently top of Three West and unbeaten, the Borderers may have to dig deep once again.

SWALEC Plate holders Heol y Cyw remain on course to retain the trophy after winning 27-3 at Tylorstown. In round two they will entertain a Maesteg Celtic outfit beaten only once in Three South West this season.

Rhydyfelin fell at the final hurdle in the Millennium Stadium last season and they are keen to go one better this year. After winning 38-3 at Penarth in round one, they travel to Rumney also of One East. The sides have already met in the league this season with Rumney winning 42-15 at Riverside Park, so Rhydyfelin will have to be on top form to retain their interest in the Plate.

One North leaders Bethesda travel to Nant Conwy while Caernarfon, 22-15 winners at Bala in round one, play host to Ruthin, who have already beaten Caernarfon 16-12 in the league this season.
