With each team desperate to win their last encounter before Christmas, there is plenty to play for this week. In the featured television game, Coleg Y Cymoedd face a trip to Pontypool Park to face hosts Coleg Gwent.
Still unbeaten, Cymoedd have undoubtedly been the team of the tournament so far and have had two impressive victories, albeit in differing circumstances, in the past fortnight. After putting a remarkable 80 points on Bridgend College in a try-fest two weeks ago, last week’s result, by a smaller margin, was equally impressive. Director of Rugby Clive Jones took his side to Colwyn Bay to face Coleg Llandrillo with the long trip back made bearable by yet another win.
“We have a good group of boys this year and they are playing some good rugby,” said Jones.
“To come away with a win last week was great for us as for long periods of that game, I didn’t think it would happen.”
Looking ahead to the clash with Gwent, Jones added: “I’ve looked at Gwent on our analysis systems and they look quite a good side.
“They’ve got a big pack, a good seven and a strong carrying No. 8 as well as some good backs in behind. I’m a little surprised they haven’t done a bit better but having said that, they look like they’re coming into form now.
“They beat Sir Gar away which is no mean feat. We’ve got our two first choice wingers and our loosehead out for this game but we should be OK.”
In the other games to take place in the Cup competition, Coleg Llandrillo face their longest trip yet as they head west to visit last year’s champions Coleg Sir Gar. Euros Evans’ side haven’t been as formidable this time around but a win last time out should see them in confident mood on home patch.
Bridgend College host Neath Port Talbot in a night time fixture at the Brewery Field while there are two games in the Trophy competition. Llandovery College visit Cowbridge Comprehensive and Dai Flanagan’s Newport High School host Gower College.
You can watch Coleg Gwent’s clash with Coleg Y Cymoedd via the S4C website from 2.15 on Wednesday afternoon. Highlights will be available on Rygbi Pawb at 11.10pm on the Welsh language channel.
