The two sides are first and second in the competition, having impressed since the start of the new campaign. On their debut season in the tournament, which expanded on last year’s success, Cowbridge have certainly proved their ability to do more than just compete at this level.

After struggling initially and qualifying for the Trophy competition, Matt Silva’s side have not looked back after Christmas and haven’t lost a game in the second stage. It means a win today would see them take home the Trophy.

“It’s a winner takes all scenario against Llandovery and it’s excellent to be in that position,” said Cowbridge Director of Rugby Silva.

“I would have been happy with being competitive in the league but we had a strong start in the second stage and haven’t looked back.

“We’ve only drawn once with Pembrokeshire which was an entertaining game but to beat Llandovery at Llandovery is going to be a big ask. We will go there and give it our all and the key thing is it’s going to be a fantastic test of our mettle.

“We’ve been tested a few times this season, winning a few games by a narrow margin, and this league is all about development. We’ve seen our players do that but there’s room for a competitive edge too and we’ll certainly see that. The boys will get something out of it regardless of what happens.”

For today’s winner takes all encounter, Cowbridge field many of those that have taken them this far in the competition. Joel Ringer and Dan Holder are key figures in the pack with Tyler Williams guiding the side from fly half. The two Harri’s – Collier and Thomas – will be looking to exploit any space that may be available out wide.

Llandovery meanwhile know if they take the spoils tomorrow, they can celebrate Wednesday League success. The men in white are led by Daf Hughes at hooker and have the comfort of home advantage. However, they know they have to overturn their points deficit on Cowbridge to come out on top.

“We need to win the game first and then see what happens,” said Llandovery Director of Rugby Iestyn Thomas.

“Cowbridge are going very well and have been getting better and better as the season has gone on. We’ve beaten them once and lost to them once but if we can win the Trophy competition it will be great for the college and make up for the disappointment we felt in not qualifying for the Cup.”

In the other Wednesday League fixture to take place today, Coleg Sir Gar take on Coleg Y Cymoedd.
