RugbyForce makeover for Tonna RFC

Wales International Ian Evans and Wales and Lions legend Scott Quinnell swapped rugby balls for paint pots at Tonna RFC during the RBS 6 Nations. They surprised club players with a special clubhouse makeover to launch NatWest RugbyForce 2014 – a programme developed in partnership with the WRU to make rugby clubs stronger businesses by improving and renovating their facilities with the support of volunteers and the local community.

In order to fully prepare the club for the Welsh players’ visit, an army of NatWest staff got into true NatWest RugbyForce spirit as they braved weather conditions to give the club a 24 hour DIY makeover. The session included painting the clubhouse, renovating the changing rooms, delivering brand new training jerseys and fighting through the wind and rain to help get the pitch ready for their next match.

Encouraging clubs to sign up for NatWest RugbyForce 2014, Ian Evans said: “Every member of the Welsh squad started out at a local rugby club – it’s where your passion and love for the game is built. Events like this are a great way of recognising how important grassroots rugby clubs are to local communities and schemes like NatWest RugbyForce will help to make sure clubs like Tonna RFC are around for many years to come.”

“NatWest RugbyForce is a fantastic opportunity for communities to get together and support their local rugby club,” commented Mark Douglas, NatWest Regional Director for Wales. “Last year’s campaign was a good starting point and we’re really looking forward to building on this as we continue to show our commitment to supporting grassroots rugby clubs in Wales.”

Roger Lewis, WRU Group Executive said: “We are delighted to continue and enhance our relationship with NatWest.

“NatWest and ourselves believe in the same things – that rugby clubs are the glue that hold our communities together, and that without volunteers, we wouldn’t have a vibrant club scene in Wales.”

Clubs who register for NatWest RugbyForce can look forward to the chance of receiving a host of exciting rewards and benefits, that provide support and guidance on how to plan and deliver facility improvement projects over the NatWest RugbyForce weekend, with the aim of helping to make clubs stronger and more viable in the long term.

As well as guidance and support, the NatWest RugbyForce programme will also provide financial support to rugby clubs. Clubs will be selected to receive one of the 30 support packages of £500 available to those that register for NatWest RugbyForce before 2nd May 2014.

This year NatWest RugbyForce weekend will take place from Saturday 30th to Sunday 31st August 2014 and promises to be another great few days.
