Wales centre Jamie Roberts reckons Sunday’s RBS 6 Nations encounter with England will be ‘immense’ for all involved.

Roberts starts at inside centre for the trip to Twickenham, with both sides looking to keep their hopes of the Championship crown alive with a third win in four tournament games at RFU HQ.

Skipper Sam Warburton has already spoken of the special buzz surrounding the fixture and Roberts admits that every single player in the Wales camp is relishing the chance to head across the Severn Bridge for such a high-profile clash.

“Twickenham on Sunday will be immense,” Roberts told broadcasters at yesterday’s press session. “You only have to look back at the last few seasons when we have played England, the biggest hype has surrounded that game.

“Wales versus England is always a big game…it is no different this week. I think the magnitude of the game for the Six Nations couldn’t be any bigger. Twickenham is a great place to play rugby and, with the magnitude of the tournament now, it’s a huge game for players and fans.

“This team has now grown a lot together and Twickenham holds no fear for us. The players are really excited – the players on both teams will be excited. As a rugby player in England or Wales, at any level, this is where you strive to play.”

Roberts will be re-united with former flat mate and long-term midfield partner Jonathan Davies this week after the Scarlets star earned a recall to the Wales line up after a four month absence with a pectoral problem.

The pair haven’t played together since shining for the British & Irish Lions in the third Test win over the Wallabies in July, with Davies sidelined since the opening Dove Men Series defeat to South Africa and Roberts having also missed the entire autumn campaign with an ankle injury.

Roberts started the Round 3 win over France alongside George North but he can’t wait to reignite his working relationship with Davies in London.

“That confidence of playing alongside Jon will bring out the best in our attack and defence as a backline and it’s great to have him back in the side,” added Roberts.

“Jon is a quality player. In the summer he really established himself as a fantastic player. We have played together now more than any other centre partnership for Wales and know each other’s game inside out.

“He’s trained very hard: I know that having seen him sweat quite a bit up on the training field since being injured and he’s a great bloke to boot as well. He communicates very well, his game is very complete and I know the backline in particular are very pleased to have him back.”
