Cardiff Blues have bolstered their ranks for next season with the signing of Italian international Manoa Vosawai from Benetton Treviso.

The Fijian-born No8 will move to the Arms Park in the summer after his much-talked about switch was confirmed today.

Vosawai’s capture is another statement of intent from the Blues, with the 30-year-old having won 14 caps for Italy and played against Wales on three occasions, in 2010, 2011 and 2013. He will arrive in Cardiff having made 14 appearances for Treviso in the RaboDirect PRO12 this term and two more in the Heineken Cup and is seen as a direct replacement for Munster-bound Robin Copeland.

“Cardiff (Blues) are a top side with rich heritage and tradition in rugby and I know that they will bring out the best in me,” said Vosawai. “It is an exciting time for me and I’m looking forward to putting on the Blues jersey next season at the Arms Park.

“Treviso have been there for me through thick and thin, and have nurtured me into the rugby player I am today. I will miss being part of the family in Treviso and Benetton rugby. Now there’s a new page in my life and I am grateful that (Blues CEO) Richard Holland and his team has given me the opportunity to be part of the Cardiff Blues family.”

Vosawai becomes the seventh player to sign for the Blues this summer as the region look to kick on from their fine finish to the current campaign.

Paul John and Dale McIntosh have led the side to four straight wins ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Scarlets and have already announced the captures of Wales trio Craig Mitchell, Josh Turnbull and Tavis Knoyle, New Zealand international lock forward Jarrad Hoeata, Bristol wing George Watkins and Dragons back row Ieuan Jones.

“We are delighted to be in a position to now confirm, after much speculation, that Manoa will join the Blues next season. He is the latest addition to the exciting squad we are building for next year and beyond,” added Holland.

“Manoa is keen to make a huge impression in Wales and we would like to thank the WRU for its support over this signing. We will now complete the visa process as we prepare to welcome Manoa to Blues in the coming months.”
