The 33-year-old left to join Clermont Auvergne in 2011 after six impressive seasons at the West Wales region but he rejoins for next season’s campaign as Jon Davies moves in the opposite direction.
King, who scored on his solitary cap for the All Blacks in 2002, has been offered a two-year-deal by Scarlets boss Simon Easterby and Williams is keen to reignite their partnership once pre-season starts in the summer.
“I’ve watched him play for Clermont Auvergne and he has definitely still got it,” said Williams.
“It’s disappointing that Jon Davies is moving on but I’m really looking forward to Regan returning. He’s a highly skilled player who reads the game very well. That isn’t something you can teach.”
Joint-skipper Rob McCusker has also lauded the arrival of King, although he admits he would have loved to have seen him link up with old partner Davies as well as Williams in Llanelli.
“It would have been great to have seen Regan and Jon back together,” said McCusker. “But Scott and Regan will form a partnership and I’m pretty sure it will be a good one as well.
“I was fortunate to be there when Regan was in Llanelli first time around and he’s a special player and a good guy.
“With his extra experience from his time in France, he’ll be able to pass on some wisdom to the younger boys and be a huge asset. We’re excited about having him back. Hopefully, he won’t be far off where he was when he left us.”
