Blues and Dragons ready for Sevens assault

It is the first time Welsh regions have been involved in the competition that sees up-and-coming talent showcase their skills in the short-form of the game. 
All four group hosts have qualified for this year’s final after the Blues, Newcastle Falcons, Gloucester and Harlequins all sealed their place at the Twickenham Stoop showcase. 
The Blues kick-off finals day at 6pm with a stern test against Leicester, who are desperate to end their four-year sevens hoodoo and lift the trophy for the very first time. 
The Dragons then take on 2011 champions and 2010 runners-up Newcastle in their last eight tie at 7.15pm.
The inaugural Welsh leg of the Premiership Sevens saw East Wales get one over on the West as the Blues and Dragons sealed their final spots at the BT Sport Arms Park. 
The hosts came from behind to beat a youthful Ospreys 33-21 in their first match while a last gasp Elliot Frewen try sealed a 21-14 victory for the Dragons over the Scarlets. 
The Men of Gwent then coasted to a 31-5 victory over the Ospreys and the Blues comfortably beat the Scarlets 22-7 before the two high-flyers matched up in the final fixture of the evening. 
A final-play penalty-try for the Cardiff region rescued a 19-19 draw and their two try-scoring bonus points were enough to see them top the Welsh group.
Gloucester, led by Rugby World Cup Sevens winner Aled Thomas, swept aside all challengers in Group B to qualify as they attempt to defend their title.
London Irish will join them at the Stoop after Scott Steele, Simon Hunt, and Declan Williams each scored two tries as they beat Bath and Exeter Chiefs to reach their second finals day.
Harlequins scored 103 points in their three games against Northampton Saints, Wasps and Saracens to make sure they would be back at the Stoop this Friday.
The Saints bounced back from their 40-7 drubbing at the hands of the Londoners to beat Saracens 26-21 and Wasps 33-14 to go through as second qualifiers from Group C.
2011 champions Newcastle Falcons beat off competition from Leicester Tigers, London Welsh and Sale Sharks to qualify as the final group winners on Saturday. 
They will be joined by the Tigers who kick-off against the Blues on Friday evening.
