Caernarfon were left heartbroken at the end of extra-time in their mid-Wales clash with Bethesda.The hosts snatched a last ditch try in normal time through Iolo Huges to level the scores at 20 points apiece after Dylan Williams and Paul Thomas had put Bethesda in a commanding position. The visitors stormed back into the lead in the first period of extra time through Dylan Owen before Tomos Gwynfaes clawed them back once more – but a missed conversion meant the visitors advanced with the try count also level.
Replacement scrum half ross Davies crossed for two of the Mountain Ash tries in their 36-21 local derby triumph over fellow One East C side Treorchy. Josh Davies, Sam Withers and Jordan Rees were the other home try scorers, with Withers ending up with a match tally of 16 points. Mount were 27-7 to the good at half-time and not even three converted tries by the visitors were enough to keep them in the hunt.
Outside half Morgan Hayward was the hero for Pentyrch in their 20-17 home win over Porth Quins.
The visitors raced into a 12-0 lead inside 10 minutes but tries by Will Adam Jones and Nick Gill brought Pentyrch back into the clash. It was 17-17 with ten minutes to go before Hayward kept his cool to kick the winning penalty and send the Tyrchs through to the next round. Hayward kicked 10 points.
Penallta ran-in six tries in their 39-17 triumph at Rumney – a team they have to travel to face once again next weekend in a SWALEC Division One East match. Elliott Keep scored two of the visitors tries and the others came from Kieron Mahoney, Aaron Bidgood, John Wright and Rhys Stephens. Joe Scrivens kicked three conversions and a drop-goal.
A last gasp try from Glen Williams insured Aberavon Quins reached the next round with a thrilling 25-23 home win over fellow Division 2 West side Resolven. Quins had led 20-3 at the start of the second-half, but found themselves trailing 23-20 with the final whistle looming.
They needed a hero and Williams, who had moved from the back-row to hooker, came up trumps with the match winning try. Marcus David and Ryan Pugh were the other home try scorers, with Pugh also adding two penalties and two conversions for a 15 point match haul.
Rory Healy crossed for two tries for Resolven with Christian Gittings grabbing the other.
Beddau ran out on 12-6 winners in their local derby clash with Llantrisant thanks to the combined boots of Callum Wheeler and Jordan Odgers.
Lewis Montague kicked a penalty in each half for the home side but there was a drop goal and penalty for Wheeler and two penalties from left wing Odgers to make sure Beddau reached the next round.
Neath Athletic notched a significant triumph at Bonymaen where the Division Two West Central side overpowered the home team from One West Central 22-15, while Aberystwyth also beat a team from the first division, one league higher than them, triumphing 19-15 at Carmarthen Athletic.
