Bedwas make a number of changes to last week’s team selection for tomorrow’s clash against Carmarthen Quins.

Up front only Matthew Pettit retains his starting position in the front row and he is partnered by Alun Rees and Brynley Toms.

Phil Rees and Alwyn Lee start at lock with James Sawyer, James Benjamin and veteran Deri Mattravers (at Number 8) making up the back row. Mattravers makes his first start of the season and his handed the Captains armband.

Luc Jones and Tom Maynard come in to the pivot positions with Matthew Pewtner and Arron Pinches coming into the two centre berths. The two wings Rory Budina and Mathew John and full back Harley Thomson retain their places.

Bedwas Director and Vice Chairman Dave ‘Kipper’ Newton commented: “It gives me great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to my home town rugby club Carmarthen Quins and many old friends along with their players, management and supporters.

“Our results so far this season have been disappointing and do not reflect the talent and ability in the squad. I have no doubt that once we cut out the simple errors and stop gifting the opposition unearned points, that the results will come.

“The commitment and effort cannot be faulted and the coaching staff are working hard to fine tune the crucial issues that are currently costing us the wins,” he added.

In the corresponding fixture last season the Quins put in one of their best performances of the campaign by convincingly beating the home side 47-15. Bedwas, who are currently 6th in the premiership, will be wary of the threat the Quins pose and will not want a repeat of last year.

The Quins make a couple of changes in the backs with Morgan Griffiths making his first start of the season.

Craig Evans also makes his first start with both Dan Jones and Rhys Williams dropping to the bench. Kieran Hardy regains his number 9 shirt whilst last week’s impressive performance by Gavin Thomas sees him retain his position on the wing.

The only change to the forwards is Rhodri Clancy starting at hooker with Ryan Elias dropping to the bench. Aiden Laxton and Lee Williams strengthen the bench along with a welcome return to Wales Under 20 international Will Boyde.
