The first half was fairly even but it was the Whitland girls who had two clear cut chances but weren’t clinical enough to finish them off.
Pontyclun went into the break ahead on points as just before half time the Referee marched the Borderettes up field with a series of penalties until the home team were in kicking range and the penalty was sent through the posts by Brogan Jones.
The second half saw the Whitland pack start to take control and from a scrum on the half way, No8 Sioned Harries broke up field and offloaded to Jenny Collins who in turn off loaded to Natalie Walsh who outstripped the cover defence and touched down wide out.
This was quickly followed by another try, this time scored by Harries. From a scrum on half way she broke blind, powered through the first tackle and outsprinted the cover defence to score under the posts. The extras were added by Rachel Norris.
Pontyclun threw everything into attack but their kick and chase game was nullified by player of the match Catherine Davies, who was rock steady under the high ball. Ironically it was a kick ahead which looked to be well covered by the Borderettes which resulted in a Ponty try, a cruel bounce saw the ball bounce back to Rafique Taylor who sprinted away to score under the posts. Â Jones was accurate with the conversion.
With the score at 10 -12, Whitland pinned Pontyclun back in their own 22Â from where they tried to run their way back up field but some super tackling from Rachel Norris and Angharad Williams kept them on the back foot and Whitland held on to keep their 100% record intact.Â
