The 34-year-old, who joined the region from Clermont Auvergne in the summer, has undergone surgery to solve a long-standing shoulder injury.
Geraint Rhys Jones has filled the void in the full-back role at Rodney Parade and is set to deputise against Munster in the Guinness PRO12 on Friday. And Lyn Jones has admitted his skipped will be missed during his three-month lay-off.
He said: “When Lee plays for us we are a different team. He has been outstanding for us in terms of his leadership and playing ability, he can do things that not a lot of people can do.
“You’d be surprised what a good full-back can do to a team and he will be missed but we need to get on with it and move forward. We have plenty of options to go there.”
It is a crucial weekend for the struggling Dragons, who are searching for just their second win of the season.
Their progress has been halted by a seemingly ever-extending injury list, which saw all of the region’s centres sidelined.
But Ross Wardle and Tyler Morgan made a timely return in their 51-35 LV=Cup defeat of Ospreys – and Jones will have Hallam Amos available after he was released by Wales.
Jones said: ”The last eight weeks have been horrific. We are building our game back up again and as the players come back from injury we expect to improve.
“We have been working towards this Munster fixture for three weeks, trying to get people ready for selection and trying to generate some momentum to kickstart our Pro12 campaign.”
