Wales’ top athletes celebrated at international

Some of the nations’ top athletes were the guests of honour at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon as Wales take on Australia in the first of four autumn internationals.

Seventeen medal winners of who helped Team Wales to a record-breaking 36 medals during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow took the field at half time for a celebratory parade to the fans inside the stadium. 

The decorated elite athletes achieved a collective five golds, eleven silvers and 20 bronze medals for Wales – the highest total ever surpassing the 31 won in Manchester in 2002.
 
Team Captain and silver medal winner Aled Davies and swimming sensation Georgia Davies who won Gold and Silver in the 50m and 100m backstroke respectively were among the athletes.
