Rodney Parade to host all-Welsh quarter-final

Newport Gwent Dragons have confirmed their European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-final against the Cardiff Blues will be played at Rodney Parade.

Dragons Director of Rugby Lyn Jones mooted the idea that the all-Welsh, last eight tie, could be played at the Millennium Stadium. But they will make full use of their home advantage and play the match at their Newport home.

Dragons chairman Martyn Hazell commented: “I am delighted to announce that we will be hosting the game at Rodney Parade. After a lot of speculation we, as a board, have made a unanimous decision to play it at our home ground. The players have worked very hard to earn home advantage so it doesn’t make sense to throw that away by playing at a neutral ground.

“I think it would be a great occasion to hold it in Newport at our own ground and with the loud backing of our own fans.”

The Rodney Parade region claimed the honour of a home tie in the knockout rounds when they completed a European double over Stade Francais with a 30-19 win. If they can overcome their East Wales rivals at home in the quarter-finals, they will travel to the winner of the clash between London Irish and Edinburgh Rugby.
