The former Wales No 8 Stuart Davies has been appointed to take over from new WRU chairman Gareth Davies as the chief executive of Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport RFC.

The ex-Swansea skipper and BBC Wales broadcaster will take up his new duties this week. Capped 17 times by Wales, Davies previously worked for Swansea Council and more recently ended his tenure as executive director of Property Development and Management at the Gwalia Housing Association.

“I’m honoured to be taking on such a privileged and important role, and look forward to helping both the region and the club achieve their aspirations both on and off the field. It’s going to feel very special to be part of a team again,” said Davies.

Will Godfrey, chairman of Rodney Parade Ltd added: “We have created strong and sustainable foundations on which we can now build. With Stuart’s expertise and experience within both business and rugby we look forward to developing Rodney Parade Ltd.

“With this appointment we continue to develop the infrastructure and to have the team in place to secure a successful future for the business.”
