The 22-year-old started the season brightly but was ruled out of action for almost three months with a shoulder injury. He returned last month and proved he was back to his best against Zebre by crossing for two tries and providing an assist for Josh Matevesi.
And Baker, who’s injury woes cost him a place in Wales’ Six Nations squad, is loving being back in an Ospreys shirt.
He said: “I have come back and feel a lot fitter than I was. I’ve worked on certain things in my game and it seems to be improving. I base my game around ball-carrying, so I was happy with the result against Zebre. I was happy with the way I played, but there are always things to work on. I still have to work on my defence. That’s where training comes in.”
“The league run-in starts from now. We are pushing for the play-off places and if we lose a game we are back out of the play-offs. It’s always tough. We have to concentrate in training. It’s really tight. If we switch off at any point, teams will knock us off. We are capable of beating every team and we just need to crack on now.”
The flame-haired forward is focusing on their Guinness PRO12 run-in as they target a home semi-final. Steve Tandy’s side are four-points off the top and trail Ulster and Munster by just two points with four games remaining.
And Baker is hoping an international call-up will come if he continues to impress in the title race.
He said: “Toby’s always raising the bar. He’s a class player, so it’s always going to be hard to push him off his pedestal. But, for me, it’s all about playing as well as I can for the Ospreys. It would be nice to be in the Wales squad, but I have to concentrate on my region. If I play well there, hopefully I’ll be called up.”
