A tender process has been agreed to appoint search consultants tasked with identifying a shortlist of candidates for the post which will be vacant from 1 November 2015.
The Remuneration and Appointments Committee of the WRU will then oversee an internal WRU process to refine a shortlist of identified candidates and progress the recruitment plan to conclusion.
Preparatory work has now been completed through internal discussion to define the priorities for the new Group CEO in relation to the next phase of the WRU’s strategic development.
Separate discussions involving the WRU Board, the executive and key stakeholders have been taking place to agree the new strategic plan for the continued development of the organisation.
This plan will be a key tool in the recruitment process to ensure the new CEO is fully aware of the priorities and associated key performance indicators within his or her role.
Work is also being finalised internally to refine the updated job description for the role including the associated employment contract details.
The new Group Chief Executive will be a direct replacement for Roger Lewis who has announced his departure from the WRU as of 31 October 2015.
WRU Chairman, Gareth Davies, said: “The number one priority for the WRU is to secure the right person for this important role.
“We have put in place an open and transparent process which reflects the need to make our search and interview procedures as rigorous and far reaching as possible.
“This is a high profile appointment and we know the standard of the candidates and the competition for the role will testify to its significance.
“The new Group Chief Executive will be capable of ensuring the WRU continues to play a prominent role in the sporting culture of Wales and in the development of rugby union both within our borders and around the world.”
