Faletau desperate for Euro success

Taulupe Faletau admits he’s desperate to bring European success to the Newport Gwent Dragons after winning so much with Wales.

At just 24 years old the Dragons number eight already has two Six Nations titles to his name and he was part of the victorious British and Irish Lions tour in 2013.

Now he is on the verge of driving the Dragons to their first European cup final in the club’s history.
They face Edinburgh at Murrayfield in the semi-final of the Challenge Cup on Friday night.

“It would be something special to win a European cup with the Dragons,” said Faletau. “It’s new for me to come back from the Six Nations to the Dragons with something to play for.

“I’ve never had anything like this – it’s exciting stuff. Success would mean a lot to me. Since I started here all I have wanted for the club is success.”

Faletau returns to the stadium where he made his first team debut for the Dragons against Edinburgh as a teenager back in November 2009. Despite coming out on top 9-8 that day, he remembers the clash for a different reason.

“I can’t forget dropping the ball over the line,” he said.”But we got a win so there, so if we can do the same this time I will be happy. We’ve done well as a side over the last few months and we will be full of confidence going there.”
