West Wales collected four tries with influential playmaker Hannah Jones scoring the first try of the afternoon. When full back Angharad De Smet added a second try four minutes later, East looked like they were going to be swamped but they got themselves back into the game when winger Emma Hennessy outflanked the defence with scorching pace to put her side back within touching distance.
Winger Delun Allcock ensured West into the break 15-5 ahead with a well taken try but two second half tries ensured there was no way back for East Wales.
De Smet scored a second try before No 8 Alisha Butchers raced over to secure the victory but not before her side had to soak up a lot of pressure from East.
West head coach Daryl Morgan was delighted with the result.
“It was a dream come true for all the girls to play at the Millennium Stadium,” he said. “I’m really pleased with the result and was particularly impressed in the way the younger Ospreys players came through. Scrum half Kayleigh Powell and blindside flanker Amy Morgan stood out in a very successful programme.”
Dragons Women and Girls Development Officer Gwesyn Price-Jones said he was also very proud of the performance from East Wales.
“Taking on a West Wales side packed with talent and bags of experience was always going to be tough. The quality of the rugby on show was superb and this fixture has gone from strength to strength. If this fixture is anything to go by, women’s rugby in Wales has a bright future.”
