Webb’s stellar season saw him win the admiration of the league’s captains and vice captains to beat off the challenges of Ulster wing Craig Gilroy and Munster back-rower CJ Stander. The 26-year-old has scored 12 tries in his 15 PRO12 appearances this season.
He replicated his domestic form on the international stage for Wales. The Bridgend product’s five tries in eight international appearances this season has seen him emerge as Wales’ premier number nine.
Webb follows half-back partner Dan Biggar in picking up the award, 12 months after his Ospreys colleague did the same. The region’s captain Alun Wyn Jones was named as skipper of the PRO12’s dream team alongside his pair of team-mates.
The other Welshman to be included in the team of the season was Liam Williams, who’s seven league scores have helped the Scarlets to reach the pool stage of next season’s European Rugby Champions Cup.
Edinburgh scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne was named young player of the year after a breakthrough season that has seen him earn international honours for Scotland.
Glasgow’s Gregor Townsend is coach of the year after his team topped the table, while Warriors’ captain Alastair Kellock received the chairman’s award for outstanding service.
The season is far from over for the Ospreys who face a semi-final away to Munster on Saturday. Their failure to clinch a four-try bonus point meant they surrendered a home fixture after Munster saw off the Newport Gwent Dragons 50-27.
If they can beat the Irish side at Thomond Park, they will face either Glasgow Warriors or Ulster in the Kingspan Stadium final.
