Coach Louie Tonkin paid tribute to his side who faced a barrage of pressure in the early stages as the home side sought to overturn their defeat in the opening game between the two sides last Wednesday.
“I think the Georgians were surprised by us in the first game when we came away with the win. They upped their game and were obviously out to prove a point. They flew out of the blocks and took us to the sword,” he said.
In another physical encounter there was a total of four yellow cards and one red produced during the match where the Welsh side were narrowly in front at the break 7-6 following a try by Justin James which was converted by David Langdon.
Emerging Georgia edged in front on the hour mark with a third penalty and looked to have gained revenge, but in injury time, following a sustained onslaught, a try by Miles converted by Kieran Meek won the day for the Welsh side.
“The whole tour was a fantastic experience – it was the best group I have worked with and the squad showed great character on and off the pitch,” added Tonkin.
“To their credit, the Georgian side were much more than we expected. They played a really good brand of rugby. They were very physical in the collisions which we expected but their backs were a revelation.
“But the boys stuck to their task and leadership by key players like Rhys Shellard, Gavin Dacey and Damien Hudd was crucial as the boys pulled through.
“I have no doubt the tour has made all those involved better players and it proved a great initiative between Crawshays and the WRU,” he said.
