Composed Wales remain in the hunt

Wales showed composure to beat Brazil 17-0 – a vital component missing when losing 14-17 to Samoa earlier – to set up another mouth-watering prospect with Japan tomorrow in the quarter-finals.

Jasmine Joyce, whose eye-catching pace proved a constant menace to the opposition, jinked her way over from close range to set Wales on their way against Brazil. Rhian Nokes raced over just before the break before flying Ffion Bowen secured the win against Brazil.
Wales began the day in bright fashion, beating Samoa 33-12. Laurie Harries proved the star of the show, scorching over for a brace of tries with Elinor Snowsill, Elen Evans, Joyce, Jess Kavanagh adding the others.

Wales seemed to be in control against Samoa, leading 14-5 at the break thanks to two converted tries by Laurie Harries whose angles of running and blistering pace left the Japanese tackling thin air.

But the second half proved a different proposition as Japan hit back to score two second half tries to knock the wind from Wales. But with Joyce to the fore again in the final game against Brazil, Wales remain in the hunt for one of the two spots available for next year’s World Series.
