“This is the first time at a RWC for all of the players, and for them to play in front of such a large crowd -they are used to playing in front of 2,000 people and not 70,000, so there is nothing negative for us. For us it’s a game, but a tough game,” he said.
Lemoine said yesterday’s shock win by Japan against South Africa was an inspiration for his side before this afternoon’s clash.
“Our players were in Japan 20 days ago, and we feel that if they can do it (win a match at the RWC) then we can. They have very good players, and their victory will inspire all of the second-tier countries [in the RWC].”
With Uruguay tackling themselves to a standstill against Wales, captain Santiago Vilaseca has no qualms they will be able to back up today’s encouraging performance in their remaining matches in Pool A.
“Yes, we are prepared for 80-minute games. At some moments we have been low physically, but in general we have maintained a high level. We have a good year’s training behind us and we are prepared to face every team, and we are very fit.
“We believe in ourselves and we said before the match that we have a commitment to show what we are made of, and we showed it to the world.”
