Llanelli cut loose against Bedwas

Bedwas had no answer to a rampant Llanelli side as they slipped to a 16-48 defeat at a wet Bridgefield in a Principality Premiership clash.

After three straight home wins, Llanelli also showed they can turn it on away from Parc y Scarlets as, leading 26-0 at the turnaround, they cruised to a convincing six-try bonus-point success.  Bedwas, however were a pale imitation of the side that ran home eight tries to dismantle Cardiff on this ground last weekend – and an afternoon they will quickly want to forget.

Fly-half Josh Lewis booted Llanelli in front after two minutes after the hosts had been penalised for not rolling away.

With Llanelli having settled quickest and Bedwas not looking at the races, it was no surprise when the visitors scored the first try on 19 minutes with lock Christian Long forcing his way over following a rolling maul, which Lewis converted.

And it got worse for Bedwas just seconds later as wing Harry Robinson picked the ball up and went on a darting run before offloading to centre Matthew Owens score, with Lewis once again adding the extras. Llanelli then made it 26-0 six minutes later when, with Bedwas once again half asleep, Long fast pass into the path of Lewis to go over before he converted his own score.

Bedwas did eventually get themselves on the scoreboard five minutes into the second half when hooker Alun Rees forced his way over from a driving maul, with replacement fly-half Richard Powell converting.

However, it wasn’t the start of a spectacular comeback as Llanelli secured themselves a bonus point just before the hour mark through scrum-half (and former Bedwas player)Josh Guy – again converted by Lewis. And, four minutes later, four became five with hooker Torin Myhill touching down for an unconverted score.

Bedwas centre Adam Williams and Llanelli full-back Jordan Williams traded converted scores late on as Llanelli celebrated a comfortable win.

Next week Bedwas visit Bridgend and will be hoping to consign this week’s performance to the history books and get back on the winning trail.
