In 2014/15 Newport had a season to forget and on this year’s evidence, are quickly putting that behind them.
This campaign the Black & Ambers have won three and lost three and are currently in 7th position in the Premiership. Last Saturday they had a convincing win away to bottom club Bridgend, scoring 48 points in the process.
The Quins on the other hand lost at home to Cardiff by 30-22 and yet again many supporters felt they could have quite easily won the game (or drawn it at least).
Carmarthen’s set piece was solid both at scrum and line out, Quins recycled the ball well and they turned over Cardiff more than a few times in the loose. If the young side were guilty of anything it was perhaps running too much possession in the first half against a determined and well organised Cardiff defence?
In the second half that defence was less dominant and the Quins scored three well deserved tries.
Carmarthen currently lie in 10th position and need to win on Saturday to narrow the gap on the teams above them. After Newport they have two tough games against Ebbw Vale (away) and Cross Keys (home) so the league points this weekend are crucial.
