The opening try stemmed from a scrum pick up by Rachel Taylor that was halted illegally. The quick penalty saw Olwyn Jones outfox the defence to score with Elen Evans converting. A fine incision by Greta Jâms and timely offload from Rhian Pritchard then saw Evans herself score to add to the Cofi lead.
Llandaff North began to gain more parity as the half progressed with one drive taking them deep into the Caernarfon 22. Sadly an injury to Nia Jones resulted in Llandaff North being restricted further, number wise, from that point onwards. Another period of pressure resulted in a penalty with Welsh international Robyn Wilkins assured and composed to record the visitors opening points.
The Cofis came close to scoring following good work by Sara Patchett, Taylor and Emma Edwards but finally it was a miss pass that was well fielded by Greta Jâms that led to the Cofi lead being extended to 17-3 with another Evans conversion before half time.
Caernarfon were rewarded early in the second half when a promising Llandaff North move resulted in an adjudged holding on offence close to the Caernarfon line. Quick thinking by Evans saw her take a quick tap and set off on a length of the pitch dash to score under the posts and duly convert.
Iona Evans and Ceris Davies instigated other promising attacks but Llandaff North replied in the same vein with two good tackles by Greta Jâms and Emma Edwards preventing certain tries. Albeit Jâms was yellow carded for her effort to deflect the ball Caernarfon’s way.
Finally it was Wilkins again who showed her class as she broke through from distance to score under the posts and convert. The branding of another yellow card restricted the Cofis and spurred Llandaff North on for further assaults on the Caernarfon line with one excellent smother tackle from Alaw Davies preventing a grounding beyond the try line. However the visitors were not to be denied and gained their losing bonus point when Jenny Hawkins was adjudged to have grounded successfully amongst a try line melee together with Wilkins’s customary conversion.
Caernarfon as a result are still joint league leaders but will again be tested when facing Whitland at home next Sunday.
